For refunds, we only accept complete, uncut and clean rolls.

  • How high are transport and shipping fees?

The transport and shipping fees depend on the weight of the package. This is calculated at the end of the ordering process. The fees include shipping, packaging, handling and logistic services. Surcharges for bulk goods and freight forwarding are charged according to expenditure.

Packages that are more than 100 cm long or where two dimensions exceed 60 cm are considered bulk goods. Our bulk goods surcharges amount to CHF 12 per package/shipping tube.

Delivery will take place EXW in accordance with Incoterms 2020 from Unterkulm.

Small amounts of up to approx. 15 boxes can be sent by mail; larger orders by lorry.

  • What types of delivery are offered?

You can have the package sent directly to your desired address or collect it yourself at our pick-up window/box in Unterkulm.

Seals and Profils

  • Can I order ready-made frames or corner pieces?

Yes, you can add your seals to a complete frame – glued mitres. Choose your seals and enter the necessary information such as dimensions, measuring points and installation location.

  • In which lengths are seals available?

The seals are available from 1 meter, then always in further 0.5 meter increments.

Our roll lengths are still 25 meters. There are few exceptions where the rollers or coils are 50 or 100 meters or more.

  • My delivery has deformations. What to do?

Rolled goods cannot be manufactured without winding impressions, because one layer reaches over the other. At these points, there may be slight winding deformations, which occur in the course of a few days on their own. You just must be patient.

  • What is a double-strand profile?

A double-strand seal is manufactured as a secondary profile and divided by pulling apart before processing, so that each strand can be installed individually.

  • What is an anti-elongation thread?

The anti-elongation thread is a so-called stretch protection. This is a thread that is inserted into the seal during production. This thread largely prevents the length extension of the sealing profile during installation. The seal does not pull together. This eliminates gaps between the seals in the miter area.

  • What is an outlier?

A breakout bridge performs the following functions:

    • as a packing web for stabilizing the seal on the transport route, against possible compression. This must be removed after installation.
    • as a functional bridge for breakout, in order to regulate the closing pressure in the component once.
  • Which profiles can be equipped with a self-adhesive?

Basically, all profiles can be equipped with a straight or smooth surface self-adhesive.

Material and Processing

  • Are welded or clinked corners better?

Unlinked corners are the quicker solution. We recommend welded frames or corners for use in wooden windows.

  • Can new tools be changed?

Smaller adjustments can usually be implemented but must be discussed on a case-by-case basis. In the event of major changes, a new tool usually must be made.

  • Can seals be coated?

In principle, it should be avoided to coat seals. Paints, oils, thinners, etc. can cause consequential damage to the profile.

  • From what quantity can new production tools custom-made seals?

We can produce new tools at low cost from an order quantity of 300 meters.

New tool with first sample: 2–3 weeks; serial production after approval: 2–3 weeks

  • Seal does not fit, what to do?

In this case, let our specialist staff advise you.

  • Should the corner be pushed or cut on miter? Are there differences between steel frames and room doors?

This depends on your taste and skill. Since seals can generally be cut rather poorly on miters with a pliers, the seal usually runs continuously at the top, while the two vertical-right lengths from below come up against it.

  • What materials do we use?
    • TPE = Thermoplastic elastomers
    • VMQ = Silicone rubber or vinyl-methyl-silicone
    • EPDM = Ethylene propylene synthetic rubber
    • NBR = Butadiene acrylonitrile rubber
    • HNBR = Hydrogenated acrylonitrile butadiene rubber
    • CR = Chloroprene Rubber / Neoprene
    • FKM = Fluor rubber (formerly FPM)
    • NR = Natural rubber
    • PUR = Polyurethane
    • SBR = Styrene butadiene rubber
    • Foam rubber = largely closed porous and elastic foam
    • Cell rubber = closed-cell foam-shaped elastomer
  • Which adhesive is used for what?

In this case, let our specialist staff advise you.

  • Which coatings are seals resistant to?

TPE is resistant to conventional synthetic resin and DD coatings, as well as to environmentally friendly, water-dilatable paints based on acrylic resin. Silicone rubber is resistant to conventional synthetic resin and DD coatings, as well as to environmentally friendly, water-dilatable coatings on acrylic resin basis.

  • Which materials are weldable?

Profiles made of TPE and PVC can be welded. All other materials must be manufactured in a ready-to-wear process.

  • Why do I need the primer?

The primer is used for pre-treatment of the surface for better bonding. Do not use a primer, there is no good connection.

Tips and Tricks

  • Functional check for seals

After 10 to 15 years, we suggest that you check whether the seals are still functioning properly, particularly on frequently used doors or windows.

Test 1: Is the seal soft and elastic? Is the closing pressure normal?

Test 2: Check the seal tightness with a piece of paper. Windows and doors are considered airtight if you cannot pull a piece of paper through them.

Test 3: Maintenance products for seals may not contain any greasy or oily ingredients. These cause more harm than good.

We suggest that you check seals every five years. Hinges and locks can be maintained at the same time.

  • Installation

Ideally, you should install your seal with lubricant. A liquid soft soap or common washing-up liquid are suitable, for example. Apply with a sponge or cloth, only on the groove or the profile base. Our practical expander tools can also help you during installation.

  • Sample

You can always receive 18- to 20-cm-long samples from our range for free. However, you should limit yourself to about five to ten samples to keep our workload to a minimum.

  • Take advantage of poesia’s advice and services.

Free telephone consultation during business hours.

Your seal is no longer in stock? Send us a sample and we’ll look for your seal on the market or make it ourselves.

Our specialists are available to give you advice. We would be glad to advise you.

  • The fastest way to your replacement seals

Browser through our catalogue with over 4,000 profiles and compare your sample with our 1:1 illustrations. You can make a choice there and order or request a selection of samples.

Take a look at our homepage www.poesia.ch and compare your sample with the 1:1 illustrations.

Send us an approx. 10 to 20 mm piece of your sample by mail, including length specification, your preferred colours and any additional information. We will send you the suitable seal or, in case of doubt, a selection of sample gaskets, which you can try out.

Take your sample, make a straight cut and, using an ink pad, a clean stamp which you fax to us. We will then send you our suggestion right away.

  • Tips for tradespeople: Measure the clearance

It is difficult to measure the clearance for replacement seals when the window is closed. Here is the simplest method:

Take Plasticine, form one or more small round balls. With the window open, press these into the groove and close the window. You can now measure the crushed Plasticine with a vernier calliper and depth gauge to determine the exact clearance.
